Monday
LAST DAY FOR $15 LATIN CLUB DUES IS THE 22ND ($20 thereafter)
Start Up: finish taking test (if necessary)
Check that they have done flashcards correctly
Go over word order with and without "est" by using characters (quis est? ubi est? quid agit ____ in ____) - emphasis on action of Cerberus story
Go through model sentences, emphasizing the pairings (1 and 2, 3 and 4) and emphasizing the fact that there are two people in each of the second pairs, but they are not doing the same thing in the sentences.
Go through each pair: Sent. 1: Quis est in pictura? Ubi est Caecilius?
Sent. 2 Quis est in pictura? Quid amicus agit?
repeat with 3/4, 5/6, 7/8. 9/10
as you go through every 2nd picture with the accusative ending, repeat the one before it to emphasize the consistent change to accusative
look at English meanings of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
Follow up with 11-20 and check for meaning of verbs
write sentences on board and explain, translate
Homework: 2.3 and memorize the following: ancilla statuam amat. amicus anulum amat. mater infantem amat.

Start Up: (pass out enlarged picture of labeled Roman house) - trace movement of people in 'mercator' on map (lines 1-8)
Use one character on overhead of house and have him "intrat" each room of the house.  Have the students repeat after each movement - lots of repetition to model the accusative ("Quis est?" "est Caecilius" "Quid est?" "Est tablinum" I say "Caecilius tablinum intrat" I ask "Quid agit Caecilius?" they respond "Caecilius tablinum intrat."  "Ubi est Caecilius?"  "Caecilius est in tablino".  Repeat with a different character in a different room.)
Practice pronunciation by having students read through 'mercator' story
Check for comprehension of 1st paragraph using Q + A Latine; 2.4 in Activity Masters (supply caption to cartoon)
When done, have kids describe the action in the house with their picture in Latin - what verbs will we need when telling the story? If having trouble, try in English first
About the Language p. 26 - go over together (use TE p. 32, pair of model sentences, Grumio/Grumionem example) and apply to "in triclinio" 1st paragraph or more if time
Homework: 2.5 OW p. 13

kids first just listen and then I read again as they read along in book.
Q and A Latine - word substitution, quis est, etc. read a sentence and ask how a person feels "Quid est Grumio? est anxius? iratus?" etc. they respond and introduce 'cur?' and 'quod...' to answer
